Wow, what an invigorating year it has been.

We’re proud to have achieved some key milestones and as a business we have grown, challenged, collaborated, innovated, and celebrated. We are gearing up to amplify our support for solopreneurs, startups, scaleups and corporates in 2020 and we can’t wait to continue and build relations with all of our partners too. As the year draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the highlights of Plus X (allow us five?) and share them with you, as well as our vision, which is rapidly unfolding into a reality.

It goes without saying, that none of this would have been possible without our game-changing team. This year we have grown from ten to nineteen, not forgetting two inspiring interns that helped us along the way – and a few team pets that made an appearance too! To everyone who has worked with us this year – your dedication, resilience and dynamic nature took us to new levels of accomplishment; and for that, we salute every single one of you – thank you.

  1.     Central Research Laboratory leads the way

A stream of inspiration and success has come from our Central Research Laboratory (CRL) in Hayes. This year, the alumni of the CRL accelerator programme have hit some top-level achievements.

Let’s take Lauren Bell from Cosi Care as an example…

Lauren graduated from the Central Research Laboratory Accelerator Programme in 2019 after developing her eczema soothing hardware product, Cosi Care, with the help of our network of specialist product development and business mentors. This year, she has gone on to win The Mayor of London Awards, Santander Emerging Entrepreneur Awards and the Tata Varsity Pitch sponsored by NACUE!

Each win has given her the resource and exposure boost needed for her to push her product to market. This encapsulates our approach  – equipping entrepreneurs with the tools they need to develop their ideas, working with teams of experts and and creating positive change for themselves and the world.

To top it off, Plus X Powerhouse was granted planning permission in the Summer and construction is well under way. In the Autumn of 2020, the Central Research Laboratory will be making its official transition into a Plus X innovation hub, elevating an already comprehensive capacity of support for businesses of all types and sizes. We can’t wait.

  1.     Get Ready Plus X Brighton!

On the beautiful South Coast, momentum is building rapidly for our first opening, Plus X Brighton. It seems like just yesterday that we celebrated the building’s topping out moment in June and what an amazing  journey we’ve had since then.

We have been awarded Wired Score: Platinum, making Plus X Brighton the most connected building in the city, providing super-fast internet to our members and visitors, helping them get their work done faster than ever.

We are on track for WELL Building Standards: Platinum. There are only ten other buildings in the UK who have reached this standard. Our building has been carefully curated with health and wellbeing in mind. Our soon to be released WELL Guide will assist our community in getting the support they need to be the most healthy, happy and productive versions of themselves.

  1.     Its time to Disrupt

We showcased four of the city’s most exciting and talented entrepreneurs in sustainable product design at our first Plus X Disruptors in November. Eco product makers Soaked, ReManuFactory, Gomi Design and MarinaTex made the shortlist and Disruptors winner, Lucy Hughes will be receiving desk space and mentorship with us in 2020 to develop her alternative to single-use plastic made from fish waste.

We are looking forward to hosting many activities in our beautiful Brighton Plus X events space when we launch early next year and will continue to celebrate and support innovative minds in our local communities.

  1.     Creating 160x more societal impact than a conventional office block

In June, we commissioned a report to be undertaken by Real Worth to measure the societal value of the Plus X growth strategy. It was revealed that the social impact of a Plus X Innovation Hub would be 160 times more than the social impact of a conventional office building. As a team, we will nurture our member community and connect and collaborate with local initiatives to create a great impact on society as a whole.

  1.     We are ready

We are on a mission to transform work space culture and create innovation hubs that transcend the capabilities of conventional coworking space. With Plus X openings in Brighton and Hayes in the Autumn, we invite you to join a community of thriving inventors, makers, creators, designers, and innovators. Bring on 2020.

We wish you all a fantastic end to the year, congratulations on all of your achievements, work related and personal. We hope that you take the time to relax and reflect but also have plenty of fun, too. See you next year!
