‘Trailblazing Women’ celebrates the women in our community that are innovating for social, environmental, and political good – in Brighton and beyond.

During this Women’s History Month and a challenging time for all those who identify as a woman, below is some content we feel may bring you some inspiration and comfort in light of recent events.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #choosetochallenge. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequity. We can also choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The first of a series of three events “Innovating for Good” in partnership with Found & Flourish, kicked off with an insightful panel discussion last week. Host Lara Sheldrake and founder of Found & Flourish discussed everything from under-representation to finding your tribe with Deepali Nangia (Co-founder of Alma Angels & Angel Investor), Erika Brodnock (founder of Kami Kids) and Lucy Hughes (founder of MarinaTex).

INTERACTIVE TALK: SERIOUS ABOUT GAMES

Coming up this Friday on the Trailblazing Women line up, Plus X presents “Serious about Games” an interactive talk with two ground-breaking women on the BRITE programme. There will be interactive activities, presented by the amazing Sarah Ticho (Founder of Hastumi) and Hazel Reynolds (Founder of Gamely Games). Sarah and Hazel will be discussing their inspiring stories, how to run a kind business, why there is a lack of women in gaming tech, what the future looks like and demonstrating their products.

This event is brought to you by the BRITE Innovation team based at Plus X Brighton. BRITE has chosen to celebrate women’s achievements by sharing the story of two purpose-led local businesses that are innovating for good.

PANEL DISCUSSION: THE AGE OF NEW DIRECTIONS

The final event in the Trailblazing Women series, “The Age of New Directions” takes place on Friday 26th of March. This informal lunchtime panel discussion focuses on three Brighton women that have completely changed their working lives later in life. Each of them started a new business or vocation within the last few years, switching to a different field, and in doing so found fulfillment.

Through their unvarnished stories, attendees will learn how to set a new direction in life, find a passion project post-motherhood and overcome obstacles. The speakers will also share their missions to connect with communities, improve diversity in the workplace and support marginalised voices.

Expect some big characters, big laughs and inspiring personal tales of determination and resilience in the face of adversity.

OUR TRAILBLAZING PARTNERS

Plus X has partnered with some empowering changemakers and collaborators on this event.

Found & Flourish is an online membership, media and events platform on a mission to empower women to create and grow incredible businesses. Spring Forward is a month-long celebration of the role of women in digital culture and runs throughout March in parallel with Women’s History Month. All proceeds from Trailblazing Women will go to Brighton Women’s Centre which has been supporting self-identifying women in Sussex for over 40 years. They help women from all backgrounds, facing all kinds of issues, to live happier lives.

In 2022, we celebrated the second year of Trailblazers with Trailblazing for Change. Find out more about the movement and see how you can get involved!
